Sick before Showtime

Friday, November 12th, 2010

With just a few days until the opening of Va Va Vintage, I came down with a nasty respiratory infection. I am so grateful to everyone who shared all the home remedies, tips and tricks and health advice.

One of the most interesting was to put vapor rub on your feet and cover it with socks.  It turns out that our feet are the most porous parts of our body. Another friend said that if you rub garlic on your feet, you will taste garlic by morning. I will definitely be spraying disinfectant in my shoes from now on. Just think of all the nastiness our bodies absorb through our feet!

Thinking about that made me think about how our consciousness/souls are always recording. I think our minds are actually the most porous part of our boies. Our senses are constantly recording and everything we take in from the stimuli around us become a part of what we are. That means we have to be careful about what we surround ourselves with! Are we in a toxic or healing environment?

I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the environment while preparing for the VA VA Vixens show. The entire cast is so wonderful, and living in the country has really been great for me in downtime.

I am excited about the opening of VA VA Vintage on Saturday! I am so in love with my “Jessica Rabbitesque” dress!  We did the tech rehearsal and run-through last night and it was awesome! Some of the acts are so amazing! I’m so honored to be a part of it all. I can’t wait for you to all see it. I hope you get your tickets before they sell out…

Pick up a copy of the Courier Journal tomorrow, and the spread in the LEO.

Opening night is Saturday! Don’t miss it!

Giving a bit of tail before leaving Louisville

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Well, fall is here. I love fall but it also usually sets a push into motion to start clearing out a bunch of stuff that won’t fit the next cycle of  life and rushing through a lot of change  to make way for new stuff before the new year starts.

I know a lot of you are feeling some major shifts in your life right now, too, and I hope you’ll remember that earthquakes always expose our weaknesses so we can move on towards our dreams in a way that is stronger.  The key is to stay focused and be willing to see what areas are being shown to us. If we are willing to see them, we can move on and not deal with the same major cracks again. The nasty little demons we carry with us are what hold us back from being the awesome shining lights we naturally are.  The quickest way to get a demon off your back is to be willing to see it’s there.

I suppose the biggest news I need to address in this newsletter is that I’ve just finished moving . I moved to an awesome little ranch about an hour and a half outside of Louisville.  I’ve had a ton of emails asking where and why, so I’ll answer here.  It’s a small town  between E-town and Leitchfield.  I’m going to be retreating so that I can develop my solo show over the winter and be ready with a show I can tour with by mid-summer.  I’m really excited at the show and team of people that are coming together to make this happen.  I’ll be spending a fair amount of time in Nashville each month as well to do some recording in preparation for that and some small appearances. I also hope to be able to lay out some plans for some evolutions for Sub Rosa. Louisville Sub Rosa is now at Zazoo’s every Monday, starting at a new and earlier 7 p.m. We made this change to accommodate all the people who wished they could come but couldn’t justify staying out so late on a weeknight.

Yes, I will still be hosting Sub Rosa in Louisville on Mondays as long as there is support and a desire for it, although I may occasionally have a guest host. It continues to be important for us to all have a place to connect to each other and support each other, so as long as we are able to connect at Sub Rosa, I will come to town for it or do what I can to  make sure it stays alive.

I also still have monthly shows at Howl at the Moon on Fourth St. Live! They are such an awesome group to work with and really know how to throw a party. They are worthy visiting on a weekend!   This month is November 17 (Wednesday). Get ready for Turkey Bowling with the Vixens in addition to the “You can’t do that on piano” contest.   I hope to see you all there. I have had so much fun with all of you at these shows! I’ve been amazed at the couple hundred that come out to enjoy the buffet, cheap drinks, and pretty girlies.  Let me know if you need tickets to get in for free.

After November, we will be moving our night at Howl at the Moon and “You can’t do that on piano” to the second Wednesday of each month. That means Dec 8, Jan 12, and Feb 9

Speaking of Howl at the Moon, I had an awesome birthday Monster Ball there on the 20th! I absolutely loved giving everyone a bit of tail my Medusa costume by Christiane Nicoulin and hair by my beautiful and only stylist Lee Ann Cooper ( of Younique Salon)…My tail was about four feet long with a rattle at the end, and the cat chased it when I got home and walked through the door!  We had a great turn out with a couple hundred people, and there were some really awesome giveaways!

For more giveaways, play the caption contests on the Sub Rosa FaceBook page :D

Since I’ve been too busy to post in the last couple weeks, I’ve got more to share with you:

I’m ecstatic I got to be a part of the Halloween parade with the Va Va Vixens, and I am really looking forward to our burlesque show next month. I’ve  finished the script and can’t help but giggle at the naughty humor. I’ve been busy with rehearsals with the other vocalists, I’ll be singing with.   My costume for the show is a very bright and sparkly “Jessica Rabbit” dress. I can’t wait for you all to see it! I am having so much fun with this show!!!

The Shows are running November 13, 20,21, 26,27. You can buy tickets at the Alley Theater  website.  Also, check out this article with some history on burlesque and vaudeville and the Va Va Vixens.

Also, Don Smith over at Investcomics.com interviewed me and wrote a review of Diaries of a Godling. Check it out here!

I also got to do a special guest appearance and performance at a Beetlegeuse themed show.

Here are some photos from the last few weeks :D

I have more photos and video to share with you, but it will have to wait until I am home and near my external hard drive.  Until then,

Love, Light and Blessings to send you through your dream

xoxo

The place where all stories meet

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Hello, my beautiful little inklings and godlings!

I have to say that I am really honored to be a part of some of these shows as of late. Sub Rosa continues to grow, and I’ve seen some great new talents coming out. I am starting to pull away from Sub Rosa a little, though, so I can focus on my own performing arts and artistic development. I’ve really been focused lately on taking myself to a new level.  Some of you may know me as “Dreamer with an Ink Fetish”..other as “The showgirl of soul”.  Some of you may have been part of the amazing group that helped the first run of self published  “Diaries of a Godling: The Promise” to sell out, and I am grateful for that. If you haven’t learned by now, I am a girl who is in love with stories. I want to tell stories, live stories and find the places where all stories meet. I want to birth the age of the Living Stories – not so much the age where we begin to live out stories, but rather the age where we realize that is what we are already doing. I’ve got my work cut out for me.

Where have you been? Where are you headed? What is your story??

I have also decreased the number of shows that I do with Sub Rosa so that I can take on some other opportunities. Our shows are currently taking place mostly at Zazoos every Monday and some Friday/Saturdays.

This Friday, Im  hosting a DVD release party for Darshwood the Conjoror!! Performances by Va Va Vixens, Ohlm and Darshwood himself. Check out this article on Darshwood and the party, then head on down to celebrate with us. There is no cost for entry.

Then, on Saturday October 2nd, I’ll be making an appearance and performing a little custom number written just for this event  at Starbase Q during the Beetlegeuce theme show/party.

Part of this new direction includes my new monthly show at Howl at the Moon on 4th St. Live in Louisville, Ky.  I am still glowing a little from the first show there.  It went so well! Over 110 magical people came out to help try to stump the pianists and celebrate with me.  My next show there is October 20, and I’d be happy to give you some tickets to attend for free. It will be a Monster ball! That’s right! It’s themed for Monster movies, so come and show off the monster within.

Speaking of monsters, I just heard Lady Gaga will be coming to Louisville in March 2011. Be on the lookout for an article soon about whether or not her visit might affect how Louisville accepts its homosexual citizens.

I wanted to share some photos with you of the first event:

Aside from Howl at the Moon, I’ve been busy writing the storyline for the upcoming Va Va Vintage Burlesque show. I can’t wait  to emcee it and perform two of my original songs! These shows always sell out, so make sure you get your tickets soon!

In the meantime, please forgive me if these updates are a little more sparse than usual… Divinity is Rising…and it’s keeping me so busy, but I promise to write to you every chance I get. I do hope you’ll rise with me.   It might help if you  go ahead and add or like my Facebook page. I get to leave little love notes there more often in addition to contests with prizes, photos and more.

Divi-vi-vinity is rising into VAVA Vintage!

Friday, August 20th, 2010

The last week has been ripe with reminders. When we are ready for a change or to play on  a new level, the universe sometimes responds a little quicker than we are ready for!  Things are yanked right from under our feet and if we allow ourselves to get too spooked or freaked out while mid-air, we don’t even realize there is a much softer mattress waiting for us to land on!

I don’t really have a full newsletter ready, but I did want to pop in and share the awesome news! I have been asked to emcee and perform at VA VA VINTAGE in November. The Va Va Vixens are Louisville’s very own Burlesque troop and run one of the hottest shows in town. Dance numbers, swings, aerial silks, contortionists and more! I will open the show, perform throughout it, and close it with the curtain call – all with my own original material and songs! These shows always sell out, so don’t miss it!

You can find more information and order tickets at http://www.alleytheater.org

I’m number one !!! *boogies

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

I just found out! I’ve moved to Number 1 on the popcharts for Louisville on Reverbnation!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who has joined my email list and downloaded the free track “Magical People”!! IF you have not received this free gift yet, you can do so by clicking here and becoming a fan :D

I appreciate everyone who has become a part of what I am.  Divinity Rose as an artistic expression is not just me. It is made up of each and every person, circumstance and moment I come into contact with, for I have learned, loved, supported and been supported in this journey…and all of that adds to who I am.  I would not have been able to grow if it weren’t for the love, support, trials and lessons offered by each of you.

In other news, Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard, the wild variety show with open mic that I host, has a new website! www.subrosacourtyard.com

I also want to thank everyone who visits my website to stay up to date with my shows, my blog, videos, etc. I know a lot of you are dreamers on your own journey.  My website has given me the opportunity to have a central point of sharing information, providing gifts to visitors, and allowing people to find me later.  I built it myself.

If you need a website, I invite you to check out my webhost..they are the best for the buck that I’ve found. I’ve dealt with some nightmarish hosts before, but I’ve been happy with Siteground for 5 years now. None of my websites have ever gone down, and any issues/questions  have been resolved quickly by their customer service.  They’re currently offering hosting for as little as $3.95 per month and have an amazing array of tools and tutorials to help you build your own site like I did.

I’ve recently been faced with some interesting trials and have learned quite a bit from them. Last newsletter I posted about tremors and rumblings shaking me up, and now I find myself in the aftermath quiet.  I remember sermons as a child where the pastor spoke about the voice of God not being in the hurricane or disaster but in the still afterwards.  IT is in the still that we can look back and see everything that’s been laid out.  It is in the quiet that we can hear the whispers of our hearts. Looking back, I can see where I’ve been asked to realize that love is not always being nice to someone. Love is not about letting people out of their responsibilities.  Love is not suffering repeatedly because you’re too “nice” to hold people to their agreements, obligations or responsibilities that they have taken on.  If someone is making a mistake over and over and over, and you just let them continue to do so because you “love”  them too much to point it out..is that love? If you are in a partnership with someone, and they let you down, or act in unhealthy ways towards you..should you continue to let them? IS that love?? Are you stunting their ability to grow by enabling them? Sometimes love is letting go.

I’ve come to the conclusion that as an individual, you are here to be you. It is your duty and your right to evolve, grow and become the best refined you that you can become . Allowing others to impede that or hold you back from that or even discourage you from that does not exhibit love for you or your reason for living. TRUE love begins with caring for yourself..in doing so, you will be able to embrace others in doing the same. While love sometimes makes sacrifice, love is not sacrifice. There is a difference between love and need.

These are some of the things pressing on my mind right now. I hope that you are all moving forward in your own growth, taking some time in the still aftermath  of your own quakes, and hearing the new whispers arising from your heart.

Shake it up, baby now…

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Have you felt them? The tremors rumbling through our worlds?  The tremors that shake us up and expose the cracks in our foundations so we may build stronger foundations?

I have.  The last couple of weeks  seemed excruciating for me, and not just for me, but for many that I have been in contact with.  I saw many things suddenly uprooted, people fall away, and thought the shaking would never stop, But when it did, I was able to look around the ruins and see the strong pillars that were still standing in my life.

More than ever, I found true friends, great guidance and true blessings to be all that is real. The quakes only served me in showing me where there were weaknesses.  They gave me a chance to examine myself,  those I surround myself with,  what my world consists of right now and what needs to be realigned.  On a grander scale, the shake ups in our collective world such as oil spills give us all the opportunity to come together to do the same thing.

What kind of practices and thought patterns is it time to let go of?

I am ever grateful for the opportunity to learn more about humility, to embrace the beautiful friends I’ve been surrounded by who look to support me as much as I do them, and who truly are my saving grace.

One of my most surprising shake ups was the loss of Diamond’s Pub and Billiards as a venue on Mondays.   It was due to circumstances outside our control and it came as a tremendous shock. I am grateful for the amazing year that we had there, the opportunity it gave us to grow, the great staff there who supported us (especially  Jared Matthews, the bar manager). Within 24 hours, though we were blessed with a new venue:  Zazoo’s Bar and Grill right down the road on Bauer Ave. Come join us there on Mondays to celebrate Louisville Sub Rosa.

Doubly blessed, and just in time, we  were guided to a new venue on the Indiana side of the river: Steinert’s Grill and Pub on 401 E Main in New Albany is our new home on Thursday nights! They also have $1 domestic longnecks..They have a great stage and lighting that allows us to do a more theatrical/vaudevillian show like we wanted!

Due to some technical difficulties, the “Dead World” video was not released this past week. We had a great party with cast/crew and were able to peruse some raw footage…. The actual video release will be end of July/early August..The Leo choose our party as a staff pick with a nice write-up and shared a great photo by Tim Druck! We’ll be release the actual video in early August.

Here’s a reel of clips, outtakes, and behind the scenes I put together

On another note, I’ve always loved fire, fire spinning and dancing, and have only twirled a fire baton before… Recently I’ve added simple poi fire spinning to my skill list, thanks to the great teachings of David Droopy Sherrer….During a show at Zazoos recently,  James Milby caught me on video! Check it out :D

Amidst the shake ups, I’ve gotten to get some great fun time in:

I got to meet an awesome metal working artist by the name of Kotah Moon at the Crescent Hill Art Festival…Check out some of these awesome and inspiring pieces made from all recycled materials! Some of them are made from Industrial incinerators, air compressor tanks, and even old 57 Chevy Trucks…I want the fiery one for my birthday in October!! (HINT) Check out more about this awesome artist at http://www.kotahmoon.com

Coming up:

Mondays at Zazoo’s in Louisville

Thursdays at Steinerts in New Albany

Sub Rosa Summer  Carnival – July 17 at Diamonds Pub and Billiards in St. Matthews of Louisville, Ky…hosted by Divinity Rose with super talented Tyler Thurman and Tonights Entertainment, Danny O day, Shawna the Dead, and fire by Rebecca Foley Helleman

I am scheduled to perform Friday July 30 at Fright Night Film Festival and Sci-Fi convention in Louisville, Ky.  You won’t want to miss this appearance, as it is a teaser for the theatrical stage show I am putting together and hope to release this fall!  I plan to release two new tracks/performances and rumor has it the Va Va Vixens will be dancing!

Release of Dead World Video – Looking like August 5 will be the release of “Dead World” music video….

It’s a dead world

Monday, May 24th, 2010

This past weekend, we began filming “Dead World”, a short film I wrote,  set to music engineered by myself and Matthew Blake Wallace.

This video is a pretty big deal for me, as it has allowed me to go back through time to uproot a painful memory. We all suffer pain through our lives and if we fail to release our attachment to the pain or the source of the pain, it can sometimes take over and rule our worlds. We must stay ever diligent in our ability to be aware of the world we are creating around us and aware of what we allow into it.

I hope to inspire others to take the quest to find and uproot the evil rulers that lurk in the shadows of their mind, keeping them from being righteous rulers of vibrant worlds that bring them every dream and pleasure.  Don’t forget, you’re never alone and along the way, you will always be given what you need and will find others who are happy to help.

I got to watch the raw footage last night and I am so stoked! I can’t wait to share this latest creation with you!! We are releasing it June 26 at Diamond Pub and Billiards in Louisville, Ky with a huge zombie round up celebration :D   Round up as many zombies as you can and bring ‘em on in!

Here are some awesome photos by some wonderfully talented people!!

Photos by Rosella Pearl, Tim Druck,  Kimber Woosley,  and John Thompsett:

Do you know someone who could use help overcoming a lurking memory or past hurt?  Please help me inspire others by sharing the news about this video with friends and family on facebook.

Love and Light to send you through your dreams.

Poets, Prophets, Punks, and Pirates

Monday, May 24th, 2010

I can’t believe it’s already been almost a month since I was able to last send out some love to you, my beautiful little godlings …Please forgive my absence. I’ve been very busy indeed creating some wonderful new gifts for you.

There’s a lot to share, so I’m going to split it up into a couple posts!

I released Diaries of a Godling: The Promise on March 14, 2010 and have since sold out of the first run.  In celebration of the release, we held an awesome show called Poets, Prophets and Punks and I was tremendously honored and blessed to be able to share the stage with some amazing talent such as Ron Whitehead, Touch Armor Class, Truth B Told, Jimmy Besseck, Huh Robots, Revenge of Ricky Williams, Rhyan Sprague,  Lot 13 and Justin Hilton, and Grant Wallace. I wish you could have all been there! Now you can at least see some of it.  With the help of Matthew Blake Wallace, the video clips are now available for viewing online! Don’t miss the opportunity to see so much amazing talent! Check it out here! (Click “See all” on the right).

Then, all through May, I led a space pirate invasion on Louisville and the surrounding Derby Celebrations. We got down on more than one dimension during our “Space Pirate Disco”. I will upload my performance as soon as we can figure out how to convert the video, but here are some awesome photos :D

I hope you’re all doing well and pressing ever forward in your adventures to find the treasures that will make up your kingdom :D Don’t forget to check out the post following right on the heels of this one

Send this post on to family, friends, who you think might enjoy the awesome videos :D Share the videos on facebook, or other social networking sites :D

Queen of my world….

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

(don’t forget to come to the site to see the photos if you’re reading this by email. While you’re at it, keep the ripple of Divinity going and hit “share on facebook, twitter, email” etc…thanks!)

I have to start by saying how grateful I am for all of the support, love, and blessings I find myself surrounded by. I am reminded time and time again that true beauty is found when people join together to accomplish more. You are all so wonderful and amazing. I have to pinch myself to remind myself that I’m dreaming the most wonderful dream ever.

Speaking of beautiful people, I received a beautiful gift last week from Matthew Blake Wallace. A video documentation of a peace mural that some beautiful people from Louisville joined together to create on Halloween weekend. Matthew did an awesome job editing it, and his music is perfect for it.

I’ve been busy preparing for my book release, huge release show so it’s been a while since I posted. So, there’s a lot to share. Sorry if it’s too much at once.

I wanted to share some photos by Taylor Woods from the photo shoot for my first Graphic Novel… I hope you enjoy them. Taylor is always a pleasure to work with.

I find myself in the midst of a whirlwind of activity, doing my best to stay centered – the eye of the storm. I’ve got a lot of shows coming up with Sub Rosa that will be fun. We’ve got a space theme in May for derby, and we revisit the zombies in June for our one year anniversary of making the zombie cowgirl video and being at Diamonds for one year. Can you believe that it has been that long?

On a more sacred note, I’m excited to be moving forward with my own art as well.

As my last post pointed out, I’m about to release my first graphic novel in the “Diaries of a Godling” series. The series is really about learning to be ruler of my world. To be ruler of your world, you really just need to draw out the boundaries of your world, then journey forth to build upon it.

Last week, I was asked to speak at Ivy Tech and had a blast doing so! (if you’d like me to come and speak to your school, church, group – don’t hesitate to let me know.) One of the people in attendance came to me afterward and said the muse hit her while she was listening to what I was saying. She had to start writing. I’m so proud of her, I wanted to share it with all of you.

She handed me this:
I’m on top of the world.
Nothing you say to me,
nothing you do to me
can change my stance.

I’m on top of the world.
You did your best
to bring me down.
You hurt me physically;
You hurt me mentally.

I’m on top of the world.
You were locked away,
and I had nothing to fear.
You had no control over me.

I’m on top of the world.
You came back for me;
I was afraid,
and you had me where you wanted me.

I’m on top of the world.
I will no longer be afraid.
I live life as I please.
I will never let you harm me again.

I’m on top of the world.
Nothing you say to me,
nothing you do to me,
can change my stance…as queen of my world.

Releasing first Graphic Novel!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I will be making another more personal post in the next day or so. I have so much to report :D

Writer/Performer/Producer/Promoter Divinity Rose is releasing and signing copies of Diaries of a Godling: The Promise on March 14,2010 from 12:34 pm – 2:34 pm at The Great Escape on Bardstown Road in Louisville, Kentucky. This is the first graphic novel in her Diaries of a Godling series.

Divinity is a poet/performer with an unusual background including foster homes, teenage homelessness, abuse and more. She is now known for her writing/performing in Louisville and also for creating, producing Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard, which has become a staple in the Louisville arts and entertainment scene. She also speaks to high schools, colleges, and other groups about the creative process and creating your dreams. As she found her way to creating her own identity, she wanted to be able to encourage others in doing so by sharing her journey. The Diaries of a Godling series allows her to share the many things she loves (art, photography, poetry, collage) as she shares the lessons that have led her out of her nightmares and into her dreams.

The term “Godling” comes from the idea of a baby spirit learning to grow up. Like a gosling who aspires to fly, finding the way to ruling your own world can be an awkward process. The books are like scrap books of her writings, memories, art, and visions. As the series progresses, a story unfolds. The story blossoms in more than one medium, though. She is also releasing online videos that are a part of an online game that invites readers/viewers to solve puzzles to move further through the pathways of her mind/spirit.

“These diaries; they’re a map to trace my journey from created human to creator aware of my own Divinity…to trace my steps through life, death, afterlife, and rebirth. May they help you as you map your own journey and discover your own forgotten kingdom.” – The Promise

The book can be pre-ordered at www.diariesofagodling.com or at The Great Escape for $11.11. To celebrate the release, Divinity is producing a show at the Comedy Caravan that night (3/14) called Poets, Prophets, and Punks, which includes the debut of her band Sagun and performances by Ron Whitehead, William F Devault, Truth B. Told, Touch Armor Class, Jimmy Besseck, Huh Robots, Revenge of Ricky Williams, Lot 13, and the live debut of 9-year-old actress and singer/songwriter Rhyan Sprague from Richmond, Ky. Tickets are available for $10 ahead of time at The Great Escape or Ear-X-Tacy. Admission will be $15 day of show.
