October is a Magical Manic Month

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

October has been such a busy blessing! I have so much to share with all of you. I’m not sure how the onset of fall has pushed things into fast forward, but it has. Everywhere around me, everyone’s schedules seem to be more than full. They’re overflowing!

I ended up with 14 shows this month! Diamonds, Psychomania, Carly Rae’s, Oshea’s, two at an adult daycare facility, a halloween parade in addition to a speaking engagement with high schoolers, a two day film contest, and the creation of a huge peace mural. In addition to that, I was gifted with an awesome new apartment that needed some work, so with the help of some amazing friends, I’ve been scrubbing and painting and trying to get it into something more livable than a maze of boxes and paint cans. You could say I’m the monster in the labrynth right now, but amidst this chaotic energy I’ve found a great peace. Things are really shaping up!

The real peace has come from settling into this new home. Believe it or not, I’ve found time for lovely meditation by candlelight, and I’ve realized I’m doing it! Like a kid on a two-wheel bicycle without training wheels for the first time, I’m running through October screaming with excitement: “I’m doing it! I’m doing it!!”

I realize that I am now living the life I was dreaming of. Three years ago, I sold or gave away most of my stuff and set off into the great unknown to follow the calling I heard from within. I spent the next few years pulling myself apart to discover the things holding me back. It was shifting, transient, painful, frustrating and nightmarish at times. I got so involved in that journey, I felt stuck in living for the day when that dream would come true. With time to sit and look around, I realized I am now there. I have reached the place I set out to find. I can only go and grow from here, but it is an amazing feeling to realize that I am now the person I once only dreamed of being, surrounded by things and people I love: things, people, circumstances of value that mean something to me.

I’ve met others along the way: Magical people with amazing dreams. A good portion of them are coming together Halloween Weekend to create a shining communication of peace to my hometown Louisville, Kentucky.

You can find more information at the bottom of this post. Even if you can’t be there in person, please send your love and spend some time thinking of us. Lend your magic to our message.

On the Sub Rosa front, I’ve reconnected with an old friend, and thanks to Terry, the winner of the costume contest on Halloween will win tickets to his upcoming show featuring Gwar.

gwar

In my quest, I’d say that one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that freedom can be found within boundaries. The difference between being free or not depends on who has created your boundaries.

As an artist, I realize that I am a girl who is fascinated with potentials and possibilities. I am in love with ideas. The problem with that is that ideas are fleeting. To be any more than that, you have to give them form, and form begins with boundaries. Whose boundaries are you flowing within?

Love, Light and blessings to send you through your dream.

Below is the information for the peace mural: please pass this info on.

Every ending leads to a new beginning, and Halloween weekend marks just such a transition. As Louisville sees the end of the haunted season, it celebrates the opening of a new season: The Season of Peace. Put in motion by the School of Metaphysics, a huge mural will be created on the side of Amazing Grace Whole Foods and Nutrition. This monumental interactive event is a collaborative effort by an impressive cross section of Louisville artists, businesses, entertainers and non-profits. It is the first of eleven weekly events to celebrate what the School of Metaphysics calls the Season of Peace (November, December).

From sun-up to sun-down on October 31 and November 1, the parking lot to the west of Amazing Grace will be a bustle of painting, entertainment, activity, and fellowship. The local community is encouraged to come and enjoy concessions and entertainment as the artists work on the mural that will depict many of our world’s recognizable peace leaders. The purpose of the mural is to create a central communication of peace in our community, because visual art is a universal language that transcends cultural, lingual and other barriers. There will be music, interactive art activities for families, and an opportunity to sign the global document, the Universal Peace Covenant, which states, “We call upon each individual to create and foster a personal vision for peace.”

Artists, entertainers, businesses, and nonprofits involved include:
Kenn Parks, Andy Cook, Carol McLeod, Evan Lebowitz, Jason and Becca Baldwin, Divinity Rose, Derek Gregory, School of Metaphysics, Amazing Grace, 4th St. Dental Spa, Sub Rosa the Gypsie Courtyard, Our1planet, IPP, Peace Postcards, Center for Interfaith Relations, International Network of Social Entrepreneurs, Scotch Bonnet Sounds, Lotus Blake Productions, The Sirens, Gary Constable, and many others.

Other Season of Peace events include laughter yoga and an international potluck for peace. Each of the 11 events lead up to the Universal Hour of Peace on New Years Eve.

To document this moment in Louisville history, there will be a photographer, a video team, and participants will be listed alongside sponsors on a painted scroll on the wall to the side of the mural.

Amazing Grace Whole Foods and Nutrition is located at 1133 Bardstown Road. Anyone who would like to become involved or make a tax deductible contribution for supplies may contact Victoria Nelson at 502-452-2501 or at louisville@aom.org.

Riding the Moose…to Victory!

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

As most of you probably know, this blog is about following my trail as I create my dream in the hopes to encourage you as you do the same.  I’ve found a  big part of that process to be to apply the things I learn and to use all the resources at my fingertips.  In addition to that, learning to treat your passion like a business can help you make tons of progress, but it’s a fine line to not let it become a soul sucking monster.  How can you find the balance?

Squeaky CLean Fun

Squeaky CLean Fun

Well, I’ve been super busy forging my new partnership with Chris Rachel Oseland of Palmyran Rebel Events. We are two geeky girls   who are making a huge effort to really push preconceived boundaries of success….Being in promotions, production and performing really requires us to be able to wear many hats – Going from business meeting to costumed weirdo in zero seconds flat.

IMG_0303We needed a break from the heaviness of our meeting today, so we went in search of balance and stepped outside the restaurant we were meeting at to have some Iphone photo fun! As we ran around taking photos and releasing all tension as we got ridiculously silly, I came across a moose – and I just knew I had to tame this wild and majestic beast.

OOOH, look at me.... a business tycoon with pretty flower accessories!

A very influential person in my life, Sharon Fountain (of Performance Development Corporation and president of the National Association of Self Esteem) has a wonderful analogy in which she uses the moose…. a dead moose actually.   She uses a moose on the floor in between two people to represent something that can keep two people from communicating. The moose represents some issue between the two that neither wants to deal with. So it lays there. The people step over and around it, but it’s still there and eventually begins to stink and taint their experience.  Until the moose is dealt with, things will continue to become more and more unpleasant.

This is also a great way to think about issues within ourselves that keep us from hearing our inner guidance and allowing our dreams to communicate to us on how to achieve them. Many of us love to hear the positive feel good stuff of spirituality that promises us a purposeful life, but (as one of my songs say)  following our dreams means confronting our nightmares.  We have to deal with the moose.

I’ve outlined the steps  to this in interpretive photo dance!

Step one: (sadly I did not get a photo for the first step).

First step is seeing the moose and realizing what it is. I did this today by coming to a screeching halt in the parking lot of Lynn’s Paradise Cafe, lifting my arm to point and screaming “MOOOOOOOSE!!!!!!!!“.

I recently realized that I’d put off admitting some things from my life had made me sad and that it was okay to be sad about them. There were some things about myself I’d been refusing to see.  They recently came to light, and I was willing to take a deep breath and say hello.

The first step is always the hardest!

The first step is always the hardest!

Step Two

Be willing to take on the challenge of the Moose! It may be that you’ve gotten a bit out of shape like me. First step is to believe and decide that regardless of your current shape, you CAN tame the moose! Begin it! The first step is always the hardest!

Although I saw a moose in some areas of my life, I put off making the first step to dealing with them for quite some time. Once I made the first step, I was committed and the process was in motion.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all?

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all?

Step Three

Keep Going. You may not be able to see the progress that you’ve made while in the midst of trying to overcome the moose; you may feel all turned upside down at times, but you are actually getting somewhere. Don’t get stuck, and remember you can turn around if you find yourself a little  off course.

I’ve done a lot of work within the last year, and sometimes it feels like I’ve gotten no where, or find a new thing rising up within  me to deal with. Then I take a moment to reflect on how different my life is in comparison to three years ago and I am tremendously proud of myself.

holy cow! no moose! I'm on a moose!

holy cow! no moose! I'm on a moose!

Step Four

Don’t let fear stop you. Just take a moment to reflect and look at how far you’ve come.  Have faith that you are almost there.

Although I see many bright things on the horizon, it doesn’t mean that I don’t daily deal with the temptation to fear or doubt. Forging a faith strong enough to move mountains takes daily practice.

aww, I love you, moose.

aww, I love you, moose.

Step Five

Learn to love the moose. Oh that’s right. I said it.

I recently had the revelation that spirituality wasn’t about removing the items from yourself that you don’t like or refusing to let them come to mind, but rather learning to embrace and love ALL those parts of yourself – including the moose -  how? by dealing with them of course!

IMG_0316Step Six

Claim VICTORY as the wild moose rider you are!  Ride that moose with all the pride you can muster. It might not go away, but now you know it for what it is, have learned to rise above it and can ride it like a pro when it comes around :)

I embrace what comes my way to deal with and allow it to surface when it needs to, but am more experienced in ways to work with it instead of fighting it.  For example, I found certain things trying to haunt me/accuse me, so I imagined little gargoyles for each of them that I mentally patted on the head while cooing things like “Awww, do you want some attention? Poor little baby needs some love”.

What kind of  Moose have you been hiding from? What lies in your past that you have not ever admitted, dealt with? What are you refusing to see about yourself? What nightmares are keeping you from the realization of your dreams? What kind of silliness can you begin to help you learn to ride your moose?

Don't sulk! Be a rebel and sneak on to the ride it anyways!

Don't sulk! Be a rebel and sneak on to the ride it anyways!

Voices may always rise to tell you that you’re not good enough, pretty enough, strong enough…… Don’t let any voices tell you that you’re not tall enough to ride the moose.

IIIIIIII DID IT!!!!!!!!

IIIIIIII DID IT!!!!!!!!

If you’re not ready to tackle the moose yet, don’t forget to take pride and joy in tackling some smaller beasts within your life first as you work your way up.

Yes…We did a lot of laughing today.  Please tweet, facebook, ping the moose! Share us with your friends, family and loved ones who might also enjoy a laugh…Help your loved ones ride the moose, too!

Don’t forget, if you are getting this via email, you have to come to www.doggeddreamcreations.com/divinityrising to see the photos!

Zombies Afloat in louisville

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Well, not quite.  But they are coming right up!

(don’t forget you have to click over to www.doggeddreamcreations.com/divinityrising to see photos/video)

I’ve been so insanely busy I haven’t been able to make a post in a while, so there’s going to be a bunch packed into one here…

If you missed it, the courier Journal ran a short bit in the Friday features about yours truly and Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard

Today’s news: RAIN! Lots of it! What a strange 24 hours it has been. The energy at Diamond’s last night was crazy strange and tense. There was a slow start to the night, followed by a few fights.  The full moon is in full swing. We’ve never had fights there before.  Then, I awoke this morning to what sounded like explosions. A HUGE thunderstorm was underway – monsoon! we had 6 inches of rain in 90 minutes.  When it let up, I left mys tudio to set off across town to pick up the kiddo.

Everywhere I turned roads were closed, or rivers had sprung up, blocking roads with unmeasured amounts of water. Those who dared try to cross them found themselves stuck. In other areas, cars floated down roads.  I worked through the city like a maze, turning here and there when I’d come to a blocked road.  I saw one car floating but completely submerged under an overpass with just the tip top of it sticking out above the water.  I finally mazed my way to a road leading to the expressway that was not blocked but was full of awful traffic.  The expressway in the direction I needed to go was complete stand still for miles and miles, so I and others backed down the ramp and headed the other way …I went all the way around the city and found myself where I needed to be.  Loaded up on groceries, picked up the kiddo, and am now holed up at a friend’s catching up on pc stuff instead of the meetings that were planned for today.

Whew! I am so grateful and blessed to be safe, dry and with my kiddo!

Coming up: We are releasing “The Dead Walk the Earth”, our musical zombie farce, on August 28. This premiere party is goign to be something you don’t want to miss!!!!

Here’s some highlights:

A catwalk zombie fashion show with designs by Venomiss Designs, make up by Rev jesse Meyer.

A zombie puppet  who will be co-hosting with Ed Black

Fright Night Film Fest will have a table set up

OK Zombie is our featured music act!

Horror artist Dick Starr and paintings by Matt Goodlett

A casket ride! A simulator built by the folks at Psychomania Haunted House

Giveaways by author Max Brooks (author of Zombie Survival Guide)

Zombie Drink Specials

Scotty and Bobby out on the back deck!

With that, here’s some great photography by Will Cravens from the cowgirls/zombie video we’ll be releasing

IMG_4910-1IMG_4967-1IMG_4963-1IMG_4946-1IMG_4921-1IMG_4894-1IMG_4877-1IMG_4870-1IMG_5009-1IMG_5008-1IMG_5006-1IMG_4974-1

That’s it with my news for now, I think. I hope you’re all doing well and that your dreams are unfolding in beautiful ways. Be sure to update me :)

In addition to all this excitement, a dear friend of mine has been doing pretty well in a music competition:

please help  him stay at the top in the  contest: He’s a beautiful shining light, and his music deserves

You can vote TEN times for the song “Empower” by Tribe of Eden in each category!!!!! EVERY DAY!

here’s how you can help him:

Here are the steps one needs to take to join KIAC as a listener (it’s free) and thereby be able to vote. You will have 10 votes/day in each of the categories my song EMPOWER is entered — ROCK and HARD ROCK/METAL. The plan is to use ALL 10 VOTES for EMPOWER, in each category, once daily. That’s what will give me a fighting chance.
STEP ONE: Create a KIAC User Account
a. Go to this address – http://IACmusic.com/SubmitUser.aspx . Fill in the blanks and submit. TaDa you are done!
STEP TWO: Vote for BRY!
a. Once your KIAC User Account is active, you will see a list of destinations within KIAC at the top of your page – Signup, Login, Charts, Stations etc.
b. Click on “Stations”
C. On the “Stations” page you will find a list called “Contest 2009″
d. My song EMPOWER is entered in the “2009 Hard Rock/Metal Entries” and the “2009 Rock Entries”. Click on one to vote for EMPOWER in that category, then when you have cast all 10 votes for EMPOWER go back to the Stations page and repeat the voting process in the other category.
e. Let’s go through voting for EMPOWER at “2009 Rock Entries”. Click on it!
f. You will go to the 2009 Rock Entries page. Once there, notice a little icon under the word RADIO on the upper right part of the page. It says “sort by # of votes”. CLICK ON IT!
g. Now you will see all the songs in the contest, arranged by how many votes they have. If I do well, you will always see my picture and the song EMPOWER at or near the top of the list!
h. Vote 10 times for EMPOWER and you are done. Then return to the Stations Page, find the Hard Rock/Metal station and repeat the process.
i. You can do this once every 24 hours, but I’m not sure when they measure from.
THAT’S IT! These instructions will make it simple for your friends to go through the process. Once you have your own User Account, voting in both categories takes about 5 minutes/day.

What’s an insane killer wolf got to do with it?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Seems the heads on my camera need to be cleaned, so no video this week. I’ll be back with some out takes next week, hopefully.

So, I recently had the pleasure of participating in a contest known as the 48 hour film project. If you’re in the Louisville area, come and see our film at Village 8 Theaters – Thursday at 9:15 pm -get tix here! Get them early! they sell out before showtime usually. Come and vote for our film as Audience Favorite “Loba” (which means “She-wolf” in spanish).

If you’re unfamiliar with this source of both stress, elation and a weird time dilation due to lack of sleep, check it out here. I had no idea that something like this would end up leaving me a little changed.

On Friday night, we sent a couple of our team members down to draw our “have tos”. These are the things that HAVE to be in the film to prove that we did it in 48 hours.

We drew the genre “Film de Femme”, which means it has to have strong female leads. We drew the character “Bert or Bertha George, the gardener” , the prop “A 3 ring binder”, and the line of dialogue, “Just tell them Joe sent you”. All of these things had to be incorporated in the 4-7 minute film we were about to create. From the time we drew these items (6:30 pm), we had 48 hours to write, develop, cast, shoot, edit and turn in.

Sadly, we were 5 minutes late. :(

However, we produced  a great short film!

I wrote the tale based on the native american legend about how we all have two wolves within us.  To make it very short: One is all about giving, joy, harmony, the collective, while the other is angry, hateful, selfish.  I played the role of an insane killer who thinks she is a wolf and shares this legend with the psychologist who has come to the asylum to meet with her.

Everything was so rushed, worked smoothly, but I had little time to really think about what I had written, where it had come from, and how it felt to play this role. I was just going with the flow..and lots of mocha.

Saturday night came along and we all settled in to watch the raw footage… I was frozen solid as I watched it. It really opened something up within me, and my performance terrified me.  I have to say that is was really hard to watch.  Seeing myself look so insane left me feeling…well, disturbed.

Why? Because in the past, I have been the lone wolf that wants to be a part of the pack.   Unaware, I’ve found some pretty ugly thought patterns running amuk within me, and this just said “you can’t hide from that anymore”.

There’s one line in particular that really stands out. “She wants to run with the pack…she does..but there’s just too much pain. She can’t trust them. .. So, you see… she hates what she longs to become.”

And another producer/actor in the film, Matthew Blake Wallace, and I really found the timing for this film spoton: we’d both already come to points in our lives where we didn’t want to be lone wolves and are learning to be part of a pack.

So many people say “I hate the rich”… I don’t need a  life partner…This or that company is awful…so on and so forth…yet inwardly dream of having money, love, and all the stuff they perceive as good…yet harbor ill feelings towards those that have those things.  So, if we harbor those feelings – how can we ever expect to acheive those things?

(if you’re getting this by email, don’t forget to come and see the picture posted here)

Faith carries me…

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Who is this Faith chick anyways? The chick that can carry me is my new hero. :P

In all seriousness, it’ s been a year packed into the last couple weeks. When the engine in the Rv died, I decided I would have faith and trust where I was led. Within two days, a miracle occured!  Someone that I met in a bar two years ago found me on facebook and added me as a friend. He saw my status about finding alternate transportation and offered me a car! (FOR FREE!!!) It was such a blessing!  So, back on the road, I”ve been able to keep to the schedule of getting Cody involved with summer day camp, and keep the Show going! Speaking of shows, Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard has really been growing exponentially every week! It’s so amazing to see so much local talent coming together to make it what it is! Check out the recent interview that I didabout Sub Rosa and my other projects on Derby City Film Chat by clicking here.

I’ve really been finding a new found trust and faith in what Spirit has spoken to my heart. Everything that I have needed has come into my life with record speed lately.  I was speaking with a friend about it last night and it really comes down to a few simple steps.

Ask.

Surrender.

Be Willing to hear the answer.

Be Still enough to see the answer.

Receive.

Follow.

When we approach life in a state of surrender and service, we find our cups running over with boundless blessings to help us accomplish our goals.

I’m in the process of getting my video camera cleaned, so I have not made a new video for this week. However, I wanted to share a video I made of my friend Ulysses Jess Sandidge in  my RV before the engine died.
Enjoy!

I also wanted to share some random quotes from this last month’s journal, as I haven’t done that in a while.

“It really is great to be reminded that all that exists is this moment and we choose in every moment which way to travel with our thoughts.”

“Who am I to hold back anything? I am human and our purpose is to give to each other.”

“Strobe light sky with lightning.Mother nature gives it to me hard and fast in quick spurts. The rain is coming down.”

“The seeking soul will find a hole from one place to another in search of what they wish to know.”

“I look back over the journey I’ve taken – the trials, the tribulations, the rites of passage – and I realized: I asked for it. I asked for it all, and here I am something new, but still me.”

“Here we are in Heaven, surrounded by beautiful people.”

“Don’t trade your soul for a pebble

Or play games with that ole’ devil

Just stay true to your heart,

and you’ll win right from the start.”

“This past year has really led me crawling, clawing my way to creating my own boundaries – to close down to being an individual again – full of my passion, full of me. For I am a world, and what I allow into this world changes me.”

“Sometimes, I cry.

When I take a look at what you said

And hear the ghosts within my head

and realize I don’t have a bed,

Sometimes, I cry.”

“The first step to life, is to realize you’re dead.”

“What we are at our core will ripple outward into our life.”

What about you? What miracles have you noticed in your life in the last year? How have you grown? What revelations have rocked your world?

Leave me a comment, and share this post via facebook, Twitter, etc.

Divinity Rose: When Nature Calls ….my birth name

Friday, June 12th, 2009

This past weekend, I got to take a MUCH NEEDED mini vacation out into the woods of Lanesville, Indiana. We were very blessed to be able to spend the day at Steve’s Fun Farm, a great day trip from Louisville, Ky.

It did me so much good to get out and have some fun with the kiddo and friends, and just being in nature really helped recharge my batteries. It was my frist time paintballing, and I can’t wait to go back!!

We had so much fun and got so many great moments on camera, it was really hard to edit it down, but go me! I got two hours of footage down to 16 minutes.  Even more exciting: I got a great song from Lotus Blake to overlay the video and it really was perfect! It’s got me super excited about this Monday at the Gypsie Courtyard because Lotus Blake is the featured music act. We’ve got some other exciting stuff going on this Monday, too.

Steve is such an amazing guy! Go stop in and tell him Divinity Rose sent you. They’ve got super reasonable prices on activities  and camping!

Check it out – (if you pay attention, you’ll catch my birth name)

Divinity Rose:Vacation and real name revealed from Divinity Rose on Vimeo.

We’re going to go camping up at Steve’s Fun Farm again in a week or so. I’d like to have a big camp out with great music around the fire….. Who wants to go? It’s only about 20 minutes outside of Louisville. Let me know if you’d like to go – I’m thinking leaving Friday June 19 afternoon, coming back Saturday afternoon  (because I have to host the indie film night at Peak Summit at Saints Saturday night – come see indie film at 8 pm June 20 at Saints in St. Matthews)

What do you do to relax? Where’s your favorite spots to get away?  Find a way to feed your soul this week and recharge….There are lots of way to do it regardless of time, money or anything else you think might be stopping you.  Even pampering yourself in your own backyard can do wonders to recharge you for the coming week.  DO IT!

Wild Weekend in the Woods

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Well, I’m gearing up for zombies. For those of you that don’t know, I am in performance duo called “Doomsday Lover”. It’s about week until we shoot the zombie western for our piece  “The Dead Walk the Earth”.    If you’d like a preview and to hear the track live, check us out at Diamonds Pub and Billiards this Saturday at 9:30 pm.

This video is kind of a big deal for me.  It’s the largest I’ve directed/produced with a full cast and crew, livestock and an external location on a gorgeous 500 acre horse farm that offers trail rides. I’m really excited about it. The cast includes Tony and Myself, The Sirens, Rani Newman, Danny O day, an ovw wrestler, and an array of other beautiful souls! It’s quite studded with musicians and other local shining hearts of art!

As busy as I’ve been with Sub Rosa: The Gypsie Courtyard and getting ready for this shoot, I still had some time over the weekend to get away to a local park with my friend, Taylor.  It was nice to be out in nature. I really needed it.

Here’s some clips. Enjoy!

One thing I’ve really learned as a producer of live and video events is to learn to let go of control issues – the constant changing and shifting world of entertainment will certainly teach you to live in the now.  It’s usually by letting go that I am given what I need.    What about you? How can letting go of control help you in accepting the gifts flowing towards you?  What kind of “have tos” have you put in place that are blocking you from realizing your dreams?   What about foam fighting? Wanna take me on? Let’s do it!!

Mighty Kind Cowgirls chase Zombies to Peak Summit at Sub Rosa – The Gypsie Courtyard

It’s true….In May, I’ll be shooting a music video for Doomsday Lover’s “The Dead Walk the Earth”… I’m super excited and so is the cast/crew – we could still use a couple zombies, if anyone wants to come out.  It’s a full day shoot during the week, though. I’ll be a cowgirl…and I will chase you. It could be fun….I will haunt your dreams for weeks. Like I said – Could be fun.

I hope that all of you are really enjoying your wanders of wonder….and with all this “Speaking of” let’s speak of wanderers. I’d like share my ode to wanderers. So many people get dogged on for being a wanderer – but would you play any game without first checking out your terrain, resources, strengths, and  collecting useful items? So, why is it a bad idea when playing the game of life?

What’s the good word? Give me at least ONE thing that is pretty awesome that has shown up in your life or that you have given yourself lately. How can you spread the contagious Kind Flu?
